London isn't a nice place to be, traffic-wise, but it does have a few strange little hidden gems. Small things tucked away and hard to find that make the motorist's life a bit easier, or are good fun to drive, or are just plain interesting. This page collects a whole range of them in one-minute videos.
It includes:
- The Aldwych Underpass, a one-way tunnel that uses part of a disused underground tram line to bypass several sets of traffic lights on Aldwych. It runs from Waterloo Bridge to Kingsway.
- Gallions Reach in East London, home to the only part of the East London River Crossing in existence. The bridge has been proposed and re-proposed countless times but never actually built. A flyover junction was built for a local access road to it, but never completed.
- The Hogarth Flyover, a temporary "car bridge" that helps the Hogarth Roundabout to flow more smoothly. It has its own photo gallery too.
- The Hyde Park Underpass, a lengthy dual carriageway underneath the notoriously congested Hyde Park Corner. It now runs in entirely the wrong direction for the main traffic flow and is lightly used.
