M40 J9 (Wendlebury) Improvement 14 July 2015

This scheme aims to improve the flow of traffic from the southbound M40 onto the southbound A34 at the Wendlebury Interchange, and thus reduce the queue of traffic that builds up on the M40 southbound exit slip-road and encroaches onto the motorway at busy periods. To achieve this, the M40 southbound exit slip-road, part of the roundabout, and 600m of the southbound A34 will all be increased from two lanes to three.

The exit from the A34 northbound will also be signalised, allowing two lanes for the M40 north to be provided, as part of a second phase of the scheme.

M20 Junction 9 and Drovers Improvement 21 May 2012

Work to widen each of the existing sliproads to the M20 at junction 9 from one to two lanes, and to widen the roundabout from two to three lanes.

The scheme includes the widening of the nearby Drovers Roundabout (junction with the A20 and A28), and the installation of a new Park and Ride site for Ashford.

The scheme will also remove an existing foot and cycle path that requires pedestrians to cross the eastbound entry sliproad to the M20 immediately before the start-of-restrictions sign. Foot and cycle traffic will now cross on a parallel footbridge.

A2 Wincheap Improvement 25 August 2011

Proposal to upgrade the A2-A28 interchange at Wincheap to provide north facing sliproads, in order to improve access to the Wincheap and Chartham areas, as well as cutting congestion in western Canterbury. At present the junction only has south-facing sliproads.

The Londonbound on-slip to the A2 will be the first of two to be constructed, with clearing work starting in September. A former community centre will be demolished to make way for this along with new traffic signals.

A3 Hindhead Tunnel 29 July 2011

The scheme also removes traffic from an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The tunnel, when complete, will be the longest road tunnel in the UK.

There will be a Traffic Restriction Order in effect, prohibiting pedestrians, cycles, invalid carriages, animals and motorcycles under 50cc.
