How do British roads shape up against others internationally? This page takes a look and offers an (almost) unbiased view to compare British roads with others internationally.
Hopefully as I (and other people) head off around the world, we can build up a better picture of how we fare. Click on a flag below to go to that country.
Andorra
A tiny mountainous province high in the Pyrenees. No cities, no motorways, and very little flat land - is there much room for roads?
Australia
It's not all dirt tracks across dusty red deserts, you know. Australia has plenty of decent roads and one of the most fickle road numbering systems in the world.
Cuba
Economically isolated and stubbornly clinging to Communism - but yes, it has a motorway network. Of sorts.
France
The plus bien roads in Europe? They do have a certain je ne sais quoi.
Iceland
No railways, no motorways... not a lot of surfaced roads, either. But one amazing driving experience.
Italy
Narrow roads, fast cars and no fear: welcome to a country of car lovers.
Ireland
Ireland pulls in two directions - following British practice and yet straining to prove it's something else entirely. And so it is with Irish roads.
Mexico
A land where every sign is ten feet up a pole and dogs roam the streets. What's it really like south of the Border?
Netherlands
The Dutch are engineers who drained their low-lying country by building dams and waterways. It's no surprise that they have impressive roads too.
Pakistan
Just one motorway and it's the M2 - find out why that is, and what the rest of the roads are like.
Philippines
A 1000% toll increase overnight? A ban on smoke belchers and water buffalo? That'll be the Phillipine expressway network.
Portugal
In 2004, Portugal's own prime minister described the state of the country's roads as "civil war". Must be worth a closer look!
Spain
EU money is fast making Spain one of the easiest places to drive in the world. See where your cash went!
Turkey
European and Middle Eastern at once, Turkey can't be easily categorised. Neither can its roads.
United Arab Emirates
A visit to one of the world's fastest-growing and most bizarre cities: Dubai.
USA
Possibly the most controversial page ever written about US roads - Americans hate it. Find out why here!
