Scheme Outline

Upgrade of the existing A406 North Circular Road to dual carriageway. This Transport for London project is a watered down version of the improvements planned but never implemented by the Highways Agency. It involves less property demolition and is a fraction of the cost, but is unlikely to be grade-separated. Even so, any extra capacity here is welcome - it is currently a single-carriageway section of an otherwise dualled and grade-separated road in a busy urban area.

Progress

June 2005
Scheme will now definitely go ahead. There is much local opposition to the scheme as it will not accommodate future growth - public feeling is very much in favour of the original grade separated plan.
March 2006
Transport for London has now announced another review of the scheme and it is back on hold.
March 2007
The watered-down scheme, to dual the road and install improved signalised junctions, is now back on and is due to start in 2009, due to be completed in 2011.
