A57 Mottram-Tintwistle Bypass

You are here: Home - Futures - A57 Mottram-Tintwistle Bypass

Scheme Outline

Construction of a new partially dual-two lane bypass for the towns of Mottram in Longdendale, Hollingworth and Tintwistle. The route will carry the A57 and A628, carrying Trans-Pennine traffic between Sheffield and Manchester, and can be considered a direct extension of the M67. The route will not be grade-separated.

The exact route heads northeast from the terminus of the M67, underneath three roads including the A6018 in a tunnel, then to a roundabout with a connection to the A57 at Mottram Moor. This section is to be dual two lane. From the roundabout, the bypass continues as a single carriageway road to the northeast, curving southeast to end on the A628 east of Tintwistle near Townhead Farm.
