A8082 Inverness Trunk Link Road 21 March 2017
A route south of Inverness, connecting A82 west of the canal crossing with A9 and A96 to the east of the city. Two sections of new road will be built (West Link and East Link); the central part is an upgrade of the existing B8082 Southern Distributor Road to dual 2-lane carriageways.
A890 Balnacra to Lair Improvement 13 January 2017
Off-line widening of single-track road through Balnacra and Achnashellach to a 6m-wide two-lane carriageway.
Three possible routes were considered: the Red route stays to the north of the railway, and the Green and Blue routes both involve new crossings at the eastern end.
The final preferred route is based on the Red proposal.
B9090 White Bridge replacement 4 November 2016
A new, single-span bridge to carry the B9090 over the River Nairn east of Inverness to be built alongside the existing Category A Listed stone bridge, which was built in the early 1750s. The existing bridge is deteriorating and an 18-tonne gross weight restriction was imposed in 2015.
It is not clear whether the replacement will have two lanes to match the roads either side. The stone bridge is single-track with traffic signal control.
A890 Strathcarron to Balnacra 2 August 2015
Widening the existing single-track A890 between Strathcarron and Balnacra to provide two traffic lanes. The scheme is also likely to involve realignment of the road away from the sharp bend at Coulags Bridge.
This work will connect with the A890 Balnacra to Lair Improvement.
A861 Drynie Hill Improvement 17 December 2014
Online widening of a short stretch of single track road with passing places, situated in Moidart, in order to improve access and reduce journey times. The existing road will be upgraded to a 5.5m wide single carriageway between Kinacarra (Kinlochmoidart) and the top of Drynie Hill at Captain Robertson's Cairn.
In order to allow the works to proceed, the road will be closed to all except emergency vehicles on weekdays from 9 January 2012 until 4 April 2012. The work is scheduled to finish in June 2012.
